Our History

Our Story

The Montgomery Home Association was organized in 1899 as the 'Home Union for Aged People' and became Montgomery Home Association in 1900. Inspired by the efforts of Harriet M. Washburn, the success of the organization is largely attributed to her endeavors. Her legacy has contributed to motivate and inspire for over a century.

The three-story Victorian mansion was built for distinguished Doctor and Mrs. George W. Copeland in the year 1888. In 1917, the home was purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Shaw who then deeded it to the loving memory of Shaw's parents, and Major Griffith.
